Etsy Fee Calculator
Enter a sale and see every Etsy fee itemised — including the listing fee sellers routinely forget and the Offsite Ads ceiling almost no calculator applies.
Short answer
Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total the buyer pays — item price plus shipping — and, for US sellers, payment processing of 3% plus $0.25. On a $50 item with $5 shipping that is $5.68 in fees, a 10.3% effective rate. Regulated categories such as beauty and cosmetics carry an extra 2.5%, and Offsite Ads adds 12% or 15% on orders that came from an ad, capped at $100 per order.

Two fees are charged on shipping, and sellers notice one of them
The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the whole order total — the item price plus whatever you charged for shipping, gift wrap and personalisation. So does the 3% payment processing fee.
That is why "free shipping" built into the item price is not free. A $30 item with $5 of postage priced in still carries the 6.5% and the 3% on the full $35, and the maths is identical whether the buyer sees a separate shipping line or not.
The listing fee is small and permanent
Etsy charges $0.20 every time an item is listed, and again every four months if it does not sell, and again after each sale when the listing renews. It is charged whether or not the item ever sells.
On a $200 sale it is noise. On a $4 sticker priced for volume it is 5% of the revenue, and it is the reason Etsy rewards bundling several variations into one listing rather than listing each one.
Offsite Ads: 12% or 15%, capped at $100
Offsite Ads is charged only on orders that arrive from an Etsy-placed ad on Google, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. Under $10,000 in the previous 365 days you can opt out; above it the fee is mandatory at 12% instead of 15%.
The part most sellers miss is the ceiling: the fee is capped at $100 per order. On a high-value order the cap matters more than the headline rate, and this calculator applies it rather than charging 15% into the thousands.

Formula
fees = $0.20 + (6.5% × order total) + (3% × order total + $0.25) + Offsite AdsWhat each term means
order total- item price plus shipping and gift wrap — the base for both the transaction fee and processing
listing fee- $0.20 per item, charged on listing and on every renewal
transaction fee- 6.5% for most categories, 9% in regulated categories
payment processing- 3% + $0.25 for US sellers; other countries differ (UK 4% + £0.20, most of the EU 4% + €0.30)
Offsite Ads- 12% or 15% of the order total on ad-attributed orders, capped at $100 per order
Assumptions
- US seller, paid out in USD through Etsy Payments.
- VAT on seller fees — which Etsy adds in the UK and the EU — is not included here.
- The listing fee is modelled as one item per order. Variations sold inside a single listing pay it once.
- Offsite Ads is applied as though this order came from an ad. Leave it at "no ads" for a direct sale.
- Currency conversion, charged when a buyer pays in a currency your shop does not hold, is not included.

6.50% × $55.00−$3.58 - Payment processing
3% × $55.00 + $0.25−$1.90
The fee base is $55, not $50. The listing fee and the fixed $0.25 hurt most on cheap items, which is why the effective rate falls as the order grows.

At $10 the effective rate is 14.0%; at $200 it is 9.7%. The listing fee and the flat $0.25 do not shrink with the sale, so cheap items carry the highest rates.

min(15% × $800.00, $100.00)−$100.00
15% of $800 would be $120. Etsy caps the fee at $100, so the cap — not the rate — is what this order actually owes.

Common mistakes
Budgeting only the 6.5%
The listing fee, payment processing and the fixed $0.25 all sit on top. On small orders the stack roughly doubles the headline rate, and sellers who price from 6.5% alone price below cost without noticing.
Charging the transaction fee on the item price only
Both the 6.5% and the 3% are charged on shipping as well. If you offer "free shipping" by building postage into the price, you still pay the full fee stack on it.
Assuming Offsite Ads is always 15%
Above $10,000 in rolling annual sales the fee becomes mandatory and drops to 12%; the fee is capped at $100 per order either way. Three different numbers apply to the same programme.
Forgetting the regulated-category surcharge
Beauty, cosmetics and related categories carry an extra 2.5%, taking the transaction fee to 9%. If your shop sits in one of those categories, the default rate understates every sale.
Questions
- How much does Etsy take per sale?
- For a US seller in a standard category: $0.20 to list, 6.5% of the order total as a transaction fee, and 3% plus $0.25 for payment processing. On a $50 item with $5 shipping that is $5.68 — about 10.3% of what the buyer pays. Offsite Ads adds 12% or 15% on ad-attributed orders.
- Is the Etsy transaction fee charged on shipping?
- Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee both apply to the full order total, including the shipping you charge the buyer and any gift-wrapping or personalisation fee.
- Does Etsy charge a listing fee even if the item does not sell?
- Yes. $0.20 is charged when you publish a listing and again every four months, or after each sale when the listing auto-renews. It is owed whether or not the item ever sells.
- What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
- A 15% fee on orders that arrive from an Etsy-placed ad, dropping to 12% once you have sold more than $10,000 in the previous 365 days — at which point it also becomes mandatory. It is capped at $100 per order, and it only applies to orders that came from an ad.
- Why is my Etsy fee higher than 6.5%?
- Because 6.5% is one line of several. Add the $0.20 listing fee, the 3% + $0.25 processing charge, a 2.5% surcharge in regulated categories and 12-15% for ad-attributed orders, and a small order can easily reach 20% of what the buyer pays.
- Do these Etsy fees apply outside the US?
- The 6.5% transaction fee is the same worldwide, but payment processing differs by seller country — UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20 and most EU sellers 4% + €0.30 — and VAT is added to seller fees in the UK and the EU.
